Distribution: In the Mediterranean Sea one meets with more frequency in the occidental coasts and the Atlantic in the Macaronésicos Archipelagoes, being rare in the African coast very.
Habitat: Mostly on rocky substrata, from the intertidal zone to 20 m depth, but can be found up to depths of 100 m. Biology and behaviour: Up to 30 cm total diameter. Species with five arms and a body surface covered with a delicate granulation and no spines. Colour is uniform all over the body, usually dark red or carmine.
