Distribution: The Eastern Coast of the Atlantic occupies almost all, including the Açores, Madeira, the Canaries and Green Cabo. Mediterranean sea.

Habitat: Found in almost all types of bottoms, but most commonly on rocky grounds in the intertidal and infratidal. 

Biology and behaviour: Up to 60 cm total diameter. Has five robust arms and a body surface covered with spines. Its an extremely voracious species that feeds mostly on urchins and mollusc bivalves.
