Fascination and tranquillity in the Northern zone
Feel the tranquillity and the Nature in the Northern zone
Porto Moniz, is located in the Northern zone of Madeira Island, at about 70 kilometres of the Madeiran capital, Funchal. It is a place you cannot afford to miss while visiting Madeira.
The great attraction all through the years was and still is the beauty of the Natural Swimming pools, which are the result of centuries of sea’s erosion on the geologic formations.
But at present, Porto Moniz has much more to offer. In fact, it is a small and pleasant village to spend a weekend. The traveller can stay in any one of the tourism establishments with quality assurance, can also get to know the local gastronomy at the typical restaurants and buy souvenirs at the existing shops.
Situated between the sea and the mountain, Porto Moniz offers "Beach" products – at the Natural Swimming pools or the Swimming Complex - or "Mountain" if you choose the sightseeing by foot or car.
The outdoor activities could be part of an unforgettable weekend spent in the Northern zone of the island. In what these activities are concerned there is a wide choice, specifically those that are related to the sea.
In the village of Porto Moniz, besides the Madeira Aquarium, there are other centres of leisure and entertainment. It is the case of the Achada’s Cabre Car and of the "Ciência Viva" Centre, an interactive space of scientific and technological diffusion, projected for adults and children, where an exhibition hall and a room of congresses can also be found.
The fact is that Porto Moniz is presently a well equipped village in what public services are concerned, as it has a heliport, marina, a health centre, a Police station, sports and entertainment facilities, quality hotels, restaurants and bars, and a fantastic front sea flanked by the recently built promenade.
